Phased Approach of REDD+

In line with the international community, the Government of Lao PDR is following the three-phase approach to REDD+. To date, most of the work has focused on REDD+ Readiness (Phase I), as well as some Piloting and demonstration activities (Phase II). Now work is underway to design both a sub-national program and a site-specific project for Phase III – REDD+ Results-based payments for emissions reductions, i.e., payments-for-performance.

The “phased approach of REDD+” in Lao PDR is being implemented as:

Phase I: Readiness (2009-2018),

Phase II: Piloting and demonstration activities (2013-2020), and

Phase III: Results-based payments with full measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) (2018 onwards).
